Henley Dragons Compete for Team GB
Ten Henley Dragon paddlers were selected after onerous trials to compete for Team Great Britain in the European Championships in Brandenberg Germany from 23 to 26 August 2018. After months of intense training sessions, and subsequent trials, five were selected to represent the under 18s, who successfully earnt themselves 3 bronze medals in the 200m mixed, 200m women and 500m mixed boats. Such an achievement against such high level competition. The Premier squad triumphed with 4 silvers and 7 bronze medals. This was a spectacle for the supporters, with races ranging from 200m, 500m, 1,000m and 2,000m.
The Premier Standard Open squad hunted down Germany in an epic 2km race, with nail biting turns which brought Team GB into Silver position ahead of home nation Germany. This made Germany sit up and pay attention. The women also showed their worth narrowly missing out on gold by a second from home nation Germany in the 500m sprint, less than a boat length apart. Henley’s youth team did themselves proud by earning themselves three bronze medals against stiff competition. In previous years Team GB have been battling against Hungary and Italy, whilst this year they were competing directly with Ukraine and Germany…the best in Europe.
