Where We Race
Henley Dragons take part in a variety of races throughout the year.
As a member of the British Dragon Boat Racing Association, we take part in all the league races throughout the season. We are a member of the Premier division, so we aim to participate in all 7 or 8 race days that BDA clubs hold in various locations.
The races are usually 200m or 500m multilane races that count towards the position within the league and other races added on the day – up to 3km pursuit race.
We also take part in the National Championship that takes place annually at the Nottingham Watersport Centre in September.
Henley Winter series
We organise series of 7km long races taking place in Henley on 4 Sundays during the winter. This is an event open to all and we get participants from a range of clubs and charity crews. Read more here.
Representing Great Britain
Henley Dragons have been at the forefront of British dragon boat racing since the sport reached the country, and we are very proud of our members who have been selected to represent Great Britain. The team supports those interested in representing Great Britain with the access to the training facilities and additional training.
In 2017 Henley Dragons members plan to compete in following categories:
- Premier (both men and women)
- Senior (both men and women)
Our members annually enter the Great River Race, the London’s River Marathon. We have also participated in international races such as the Vogalonga, a river marathon in Venice. Truly the sky is the limit. If we can’t put together a team from our members, we join our forces with other dragon boat teams.
We love participating in a range of local events, such as the Pangbourne, Cookham or Hurley regatta. We race as a club or as individual members – depending on the event (because you can’t fit 22 people into a bathtub…) .
